137th Infantry Regiment, Company I

Rolland J Hill, son of William and Addie (Harlow) Hill, was born February 12, 1923 in North Shade Township, Gratiot County, Michigan. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942 while living in Carson City, Michigan and was inducted into the Army January 20, 1943 at Kalamazoo, Michigan. He served in Company I, 137th Infantry Regiment and landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy France on July 7, 1944. Pfc Rolland J Hill was killed in action by an artillery blast July 14, 1944 in the vicinity of La Meauffe, just north of St Lo, France and was posthumously awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge August 2, 1944. He is buried at Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
