137th Infantry Regiment, Company B

Julius Hoffman, son of Louis and Dorothy (Reisman) Hoffman, was born March 26, 1914 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He married Sarah "Sid" Kornblau in 1940 and the couple had a daughter, Rosalind. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940 and enlisted in the Army September 4, 1943 at Camden, New Jersey. He entered active service September 11, 1943 at Fort Dix and departed for the ETO August 6, 1944. He joined Company B, 137th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 53rd Replacement Battalion on September 7, 1944 when the unit was at Vendeuvre, France. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge October 1 and was promoted to Private First Class October 9, 1944. Pfc Julius Hoffman was killed in action November 8, 1944 in the vicinity of Oriocourt, France about 25 miles south of Metz. He is buried at Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint Avold, France.
