137th Infantry Regiment, Company E

William Kelly Ingram, son of Dave Crockett and Bessie Bell (Ragsdale) Ingram, was born May 25, 1919 in Blount County, Alabama. He married Lillian Imogene Hazelrig September 26, 1940 and the couple had 2 children, a son Thomas Richard who died in infancy and a daughter Ginger Lee. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. At the time he was working at TCI Ironworks in Birmingham, Alabama. He enlisted in the Army March 28, 1944 at Fort McPherson, Georgia and joined Company E, 137th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 71st Replacement Battalion October 3, 1944 when the unit was at Gremecey, France. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge November 1, 1944. Pvt William K Ingram was killed by shell blast fragments November 10, 1944 in the vicinity of Chateau Salins, France. He is buried at Clear Springs Cemetery, Allgood, Alabama.
