137th Infantry Regiment, Company I

Arthur Donald Johnson, son of Edward Theodore and Laura Virgil (Reid) Johnson, was born May 12, 1920 in Sioux City, Iowa. He married Helen Plumie McDonald-Knepper July 16, 1940 and the couple had a daughter, Mary Ellen. He registered for the draft July 1, 1941 and was inducted into the Army March 31, 1944 at Camp Dodge, Iowa. He joined Company I, 137th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 38th Replacement Battalion October 2, 1944 while the unit was at Pettoncourt, France. Pvt Arthur D Johnson was killed in action October 10, 1944 by shell blast fragments in the vicinity of Fossieux, France. He is buried at Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint Avold, France.
