137th Infantry Regiment, Company I

Howard Clement Johnson, son of Richard and Anna "Annie" (Erickson) Johnson, was born April 20, 1916 in Seward County, Nebraska. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940 and was inducted into the Army December 15, 1941. He took basic training at Camp Roberts, California and served in Company I, 137th Infantry Regiment. He landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy France July 7, 1944. Pfc Howard C Johnson was killed in action July 12, 1944 in the vicinity of St Lo, France and was posthumously awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge August 2, 1944. He is buried at Valparaiso Cemetery, Valparaiso, Nebraska.
