Victor Otto Kakac, Jr, son of Victor Otto, Sr and Blanche (Frazier) Kakac, was born August 31, 1925 in Cresco, Iowa. He registered for the draft December 11,1942 and was inducted into the Army March 22, 1943. After induction he served in Company C, 309th Infantry Regiment at Camp Butner, North Carolina and departed for the ETO May 7, 1944. He joined Company M, 137th Infantry Regiment as a Light Mortar Crewman from the 86th Replacement Battalion on July 17, 1944 when the unit was in the vicinity of St Lo, France. Pfc Victor O Kakac, Jr was killed in action August 1, 1944 in the vicinity of Torigini Sur Vire, France. He is buried at Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
