Richard Kollock Keeshan, son of Thomas Henry and Lewis Ellen (Kollock) Keeshan, was born August 16, 1917 in Topeka, Kansas. He was a Rifleman in Company B, 137th Infantry Regiment and landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy France July 7, 1944. Pfc Richard E Keeshan was killed in action by an artillery blast July 17, 1944 in the vicinity of St Lo, France. He is buried at Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.

Private First Class Richard K Keeshan, 37144743, Infantry, United States Army, for heroic service in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States, in the * * * sector, Normandy, France, on 17 July 1944. In the operation against * * * , when his platoon had been reorganized for a holding position to deliver fire upon an enemy machine gun on the top floor of a three story building, Private Keeshan, with two other enlisted men, one a squad sergeant, the other a senior scout, formed a patrol for the purpose of flanking the building. When the patrol fired rifle grenades into the building, the enemy gun was destroyed and two of its crew were captured. Returning to his unit with the prisoners, Private Keeshan was killed by enemy artillery fire. His courage and devotion to duty reflect credit upon his character as a soldier.
