Dale Stitt Kerlin, son of McClellan and Blanche Lisa (Robinson) Kerlin, was born June 2, 1924 in Altoona Pennsylvania. He married Betty Louise Smith June 24, 1943 and the couple had a daughter, Kathryn Darlene. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942, was inducted into the Army November 30, 1943 at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and entered active service December 21, 1943 at Fort Meade, Maryland. He arrived in the ETO June 22, 1944 and joined Company A, 137th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 86th Replacement Battalion July 21, 1944 when the unit was in the vicinity of St Lo, France. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge on August 1, 1944. He was wounded by shell fragments August 12, 1944 near Mortain, France, returned to duty October 16, 1944, and was promoted to Staff Sergeant December 7, 1944. S/Sgt Dale S Kerlin was killed in action December 15, 1944 in the vicinity of Habkirchen, Germany. He is buried at Pine Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Neelyton, Pennsylvania.
