137th Infantry Regiment - Company L

Edward Willard Koehler, son of George Adam and Elizabeth (Weber) Koehler, was born August 17, 1925 in Hempstead, New York and moved to Indiana sometime between 1940 and 1943. He registered for the draft on his 18th birthday, August 17, 1943, when he was living in Evansville, Indiana. He was inducted into the Army October 20, 1943 and joined Company L, 137th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 14th Replacement Battalion December 21, 1944 when the unit was in the vicinity of Neunkirchen, Germany. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge January 1, 1945. Pvt Edward W Koehler was initially reported missing and later confirmed killed in action January 9, 1945 in the vicinity of Villers-la-Bonne-Eau, Belgium. He is buried at Long Island National Cemetery, East Farmingdale, New York.
