Sam Lazar, son of Emery and Elishua "Elizabeth" (Hosanna) Lazar, was born October 19,1924 in Gary, Indiana. He registered for the draft December 22, 1942 when he was 18 years old and a senior at Lew Wallace High School in Gary. He was inducted into the Army July 5, 1943 at Indianapolis, Indiana and joined Company G, 137th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 38th Replacement Battalion September 18, 1944 when the unit was in the vicinity of Remereville, France. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge October 1, 1944. Pvt Sam Lazar was killed in action by fragments from a shell blast October 2, 1944 in the vicinity of Chambrey, France. He is buried at Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint Avold, France.
