137th Infantry Regiment - Company C

Hugh Lea Lesher, son of Lea Richmond and May (Boyer) Lesher, was born March 31, 1922 in Pennsylvania. He moved to Florida with his family sometime between 1935 and 1940. He was inducted into the Army June 9, 1942 and served as a Squad Leader in Company C, 137th Infantry Regiment. Cpl Hugh L Lesher was killed in action July 17, 1944 during the battle for St Lo, France and was posthumously awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge August 2, 1944. He is buried at Evergreen Municipal Cemetery, Sanford, Florida.
