Philip Lueroy Milligan, son of Lue Roy and Rose Anne (Lannan) Milligan, was born February 3, 1912 in Hiteman, Iowa. He married Nadine Virginia Bridges June 3, 1939 and the couple had a son, Gary Lou. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. At the time he was living in Des Moines, Iowa and was inducted into the Army March 20, 1944 at Camp Dodge Herrold, Iowa. He joined Company E, 137th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 71st Replacement Battalion October 3, 1944 while the unit was in the vicinity of Grémecey, France. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge November 1 and was promoted to Private First Class November 20, 1944. Pfc Philip L Milligan was seriously wounded in action by shell fragments February 27 in the vicinity of Gladbach, Germany, transferred to the 105th Evacuation Hospital, and died of his wounds the following day, February 28, 1945. He is buried at Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands.
