Robert Lee Mochel, son of Clem Oscar and Amelia (Schalliol) Mochel, was born July 25, 1925 in Mishawaka, Indiana. He registered for the draft July 26, 1943 when he was 18 years old and living in South Bend, Indiana. He was inducted into the Army June 20, 1944 at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana and joined Company D, 137th Infantry Regiment as an Ammunition Handler from the 14th Replacement Battalion on December 23, 1944 when the unit was at Moulins just west of Metz, France. Pvt Robert L Mochel was seriously wounded December 31, 1944 by shell fragments in the vicinity of Villers-la-Bonne-Eau, Belgium and died of his wounds that same day. He is buried at Saint Johns Cemetery, Woodland, Indiana.
