William Girard Morgan, son of John Francis and Catherine (Mahon) Morgan, was born June 15, 1915 in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania. He married Elizabeth Rita Amann November 23, 1940. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. At the time he was living in Baltimore, Maryland and working at Bethlehem Steel. He was inducted into the Army January 22, 1944 at Baltimore, Maryland and joined Company I, 137th Infantry Regiment from the 53rd Replacement Battalion September 8, 1944 as a Light Mortar Crewman. Pvt William G Morgan was killed in action by shell fragments September 16, 1944 in the vicinity of La Chartreuse, just southeast of Nancy, France. He is buried at Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint Avold, France.
