137th Infantry Regiment - Company D

Herbert Theodore Muchow, son of Frederick Henry and Mary Magdalene (DeTemple) Muchow, was born March 29, 1923 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942 and was inducted into the Army August 10, 1943 at Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He joined Company D, 137th Infantry Regiment as a Light Mortar Crewman from the 86th Replacement Battalion July 20 1944 while the unit was in the vicinity of St Lo, France and was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge August 1, 1944. Pfc Herbert T Muchow was wounded in action by shrapnel September 13, 1944 in the vicinity of the Moselle River south of St Lo near Domptail-en-l'Air, France and transferred to the 106th Evacuation Hospital. He died of his wounds September 15, 1944 and is buried at Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint Avold, France.
