Marvin Clay Murphy, son of Leonard Clay and Bessie Jane (Whitehouse) Murphy, was born March 30, 1921 in Shelby County, Kentucky. He married Louise Frances Champion and the couple had a son, Earl. He registered for the draft February 16, 1942 and was inducted into the Army April 1, 1944 at Fort Thomas, Newport, Kentucky. He joined Company E, 137th Infantry Regiment from the 38th Replacement Battalion October 2, 1944 when the unit was in the vicinity of Gremecey, France and served as a Scout. He was promoted to Private First Class November 20 and awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge November 1, 1944. Pfc Marvin C Murphy was reported missing November 23, 1944 in the vicinity of Hilsprich, France and was confirmed killed by shell fragments December 8, 1944. He is buried at Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint Avold, France.
