Carl Victor Nelson, son of Victor and Elizabeth Johanna (Carlson) Nelson, was born May 18, 1917 in Ericsburg, Minnesota. He was a member of Company F, 137th Infantry Regiment and landed at Omaha Beach in Normandy, France July 8, 1944. Pvt Carl V Nelson was killed in action July 13, 1944 by artillery shell fragments in the vicinity of La Meauffe, just north of St Lo, France. He was posthumously awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge August 2, 1944. He is buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
