Albert Ellsworth Olson, son of Peter and Marie Marguerite (Britton) Olson, was born September 26, 1919 in Silverton, Oregon. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. At the time he was working for the Silver Falls Timber Company in Silverton. He was inducted into the Army March 23, 1942 at Portland, Oregon and served in Company A, 137th Infantry Regiment. He was promoted to Private First Class July 1, 1944, landed at Omaha Beach July 7, promoted to Sergeant July 17, and awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge August 1, 1944. He suffered laceration wounds from shrapnel August 13 but remained on duty. Sgt Albert E Olson was seriously wounded in action August 17, 1944 in the vicinity of Orleans, France and died of his wounds that same day. He is buried at Valley View Cemetery, Silverton, Oregon.
