Richard Malcolm Packard, son of Arthur Mellen and Eva (Conant) Packard, was born May 21, 1922 in Rumford, Maine. He was inducted into the Army in March 1943 and commissioned Second Lieutenant November 9, 1943. He departed the U.S. for the ETO in April 1944 and joined Company B, 137th Infantry Regiment from the 92nd Replacement Battalion July 25, 1944. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge August 1, 1944. 2nd Lt Richard M Packard was originally reported missing and was later confirmed killed in action August 2, 1944 in vicinity of Tessey-sur-Vire, France. He is buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Dixfield, Maine.
