Raymond Parkerson, son of Henning Thomas and Texas Arkainee (Burch) Parkerson, was born May 23, 1925 in Telfair County, Georgia. He registered for the draft April 23, 1943 and was inducted into the Army July 31, 1943. He was a Rifleman in Company G, 137th Infantry Regiment and landed at Omaha Beach in Normandy on July 8, 1944. Pfc Raymond Parkerson was killed in action by artillery shell shrapnel July 24, 1944 in the vicinity of St Lo, France. He is buried at Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France and memorialized at Southview Cemetery, Thomaston, Georgia.
