Ardis Pinkard, son of James Burton and Viola (Dempsey) Pinkard, was born April 11, 1920 in Madison, Florida. He registered for the draft July 1, 1941. At the time he was a farmer in Madison. He was inducted into the Army February 11, 1942 and served as an Automatic Rifleman in Company K, 137th Infantry Regiment. He was wounded in action July 14, 1944 in the vicinity of St Lo, France, was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge August 2, and returned to duty October 4, 1944. Pfc Ardis Pinkard was reported missing in action January 1 and was later confirmed killed in action January 8, 1945 in the vicinity of Villers-la Bonne-Eau, Belgium. He is buried at Hopewell Cemetery, Madison, Florida.
