Thomas Edward Pizzuti, son of Thomas and Clementina (Persichetti) Pizzuti, was born August 1, 1924 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He registered for the draft December 16, 1942. At the time he was working at the Frank and Seder Department Store in Pittsburgh. He was inducted into the Army April 4, 1943 at Pittsburg, joined Company K, 137th Infantry Regiment from the 86th Replacement Battalion July 30, 1944, and was promoted to Staff Sergeant, Squad Leader, August 21, 1944. S/Sgt Thomas E Pizzuti was killed in action October 11, 1944 at Fossieux, France, He was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for heroic action during the battle in which he died. He is buried at Gettysburg National Cemetery, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

Staff Sergeant Thomas E Pizzuti, 33677951, Infantry, United States Army, for heroic service in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States, in * * * , France, on 11 October 1944. While proceeding through the streets of the village of Fossieux with the mission of mopping-up remnants of the enemy still holding out it the village, a squad of rifleman was pinned down by fire from a well concealed enemy emplacement. After an unsuccessful attempt to rout the enemy with hand grenades, Sergeant Pizzuti, a squad leader, exposed himself to enemy fire in an attempt to ascertain the exact disposition of the enemy group. He was mortally wounded but his squad, inspired by his heroic self-sacrifice, succeeded in routing the enemy from their stronghold. Entered military service from Pennsylvania.
