Robert Arthur Quackenbush, son of Arthur and Florence Bell (Hoose) Quackenbush, was born June 1, 1924 in Stillwater, New York. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942. At the time he was living in Albany and working at the U.S. Army Watervliet Arsenal in Watervliet, New York. He was inducted into the Army February 10, 1943. Pfc Robert A Quackenbush was a Rifleman in Company A, 137th Infantry Regiment. He was killed in action July 17, 1944 in the vicinity of La Meauffe during the battle for St Lo, France and was posthumously awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge August 2, 1944. He is buried at Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands, New York.
