137th Infantry Regiment - Company F

William Bazil Ransford, son of Rolf and Flossie Ransford, was born in Colorado October 18, 1921. His family moved to Kansas sometime before 1930. A member of the Kansas National Guard, he was mobilized to Federal Service on December 23, 1940 at Newton, Kansas. He was a Squad Leader in Company F, 137th Infantry Regiment and landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy France July 8, 1944. S/Sgt William B Ransford was killed in action by a shell blast July 14, 1944 during the battle for St Lo, France. He is buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Newton Kansas.
