Cecil Clay Rogers, son of George Robert and Myra Elizabeth (Palmer) Rogers, was born in Patrick County, Virginia. Some records list his birth date as March 5, 1921 and others as November 5, 1921. He registered for the draft February 17, 1942. At that time he was a farmer living in Ararat, Virginia. He was inducted into the Army September 17, 1942 at Roanoke, Virginia. He joined Company I, 137th Infantry Regiment from the 86th Replacement Battalion July 17, 1944, served as a Rifleman, and was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge August 1, 1944. Pfc Cecil C Rogers was killed in action August 11, 1944 in the vicinity of Bion, just south of Mortain, France. He is buried at Red Bank Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Claudville, Virginia.
