Lawrence Rysavy, son of Joseph F and Mary (Pecka) Rysavy, was born June 19, 1914 near Lawton in Walsh County North Dakota. He married Phyllis Katherine Mootz March 10, 1942 and the couple had a son, Gary Lee. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940 and entered service March 18, 1942. He was a Rifleman in Company I, 137th Infantry Regiment, landed at Omaha Beach in Normandy France July 7, 1944 and participated in the battle for St Lo, France. Pfc Lawrence Rysavy was originally reported missing and was later confirmed killed in action August 11, 1944 in the vicinity of Mortain, France. He is buried at Brittany American Cemetery, Saint James, France.
