Carl Ray Samuel, son of Peter Quincy and Susan Elizabeth (Miller) Samuel, was born February 18, 1922 in Wortham, Texas. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942. At the time he was working at Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, Texas. He was inducted into the Army March 17, 1944 at Camp Wolters, Texas and joined Company K, 137th Infantry Regiment from the 38th Replacement Battalion September 23, 1944 serving as a Rifleman. Pvt Carl R Samuel was originally reported missing and it was later confirmed that he had been killed in action November 11, 1944 in the vicinity of Foret de Gremercy, France. He is buried at Miller Cemetery, Freestone County, Texas.
