Sherlock Henry Sanders, son of Cecil Charlie and Margaret Ada (Stroud) Sanders, was born December 1, 1924 in Hiawassee, Georgia. He registered for the draft December 28, 1942. At the time he was a student in Hiawassee. He was inducted into the Army November 13, 1943 at Fort McPherson, Atlanta, Georgia and joined Company G, 137th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman on July 20, 1944 from the 86th Replacement Battalion. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge August 1, 1944. Pvt Sherlock H Sanders was killed in action August 3, 1944 in fighting along the Vire River south of St Lo, France. He is buried at Macedonia Cemetery, Towns County, Georgia.
