Allan Maynard Sawyer, son of Mathias and Josephine (Gunderson) Sawyer, was born June 13, 1906 in Lynn Grove, Iowa. He moved to Driscoll, North Dakota with his parents in 1909. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940 and was inducted into the Army in February 1943. He joined Company G, 137th Infantry Regiment on July 20, 1944 from the 86th Replacement Battalion and was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge August 1, 1944. He transferred to Headquarters Company 137th Infantry Regiment December 1, 1944. Pfc Allan M Sawyer was originally reported missing and it was later confirmed that he had been killed in action about 50 miles north of Magdeburg, Germany west of the Elbe River. He is buried at Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Driscoll, North Dakota.
