137th Infantry Regiment - Company I

John Eugene Schneidmiller, son of John Conrad and Nettie (Hetzel) Schneidmiller, was born May 25, 1917 in East Liverpool, Ohio. He married Glendora Amelia Smith November 13, 1939 and the couple had 2 daughters, Judith and Janet Rose. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. At the time he was working for John Keil Company in East Liverpool. He was inducted into the Army March 4, 1944 at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana and joined Company I, 137th Infantry Regiment on September 23, 1944 from the 38th Replacement Battalion, serving as a Rifleman. Pvt John E Schneidmiller was killed in action October 1, 1944 by artillery shell shrapnel in the vicinity of the Gremecey Forest, France. He is buried at Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint-Avold, France.
