137th Infantry Regiment - Company K

Robert Lee Shackelford, son of Jesse Reid and Maude Muriel (McConnell) Shackelford, was born March 21, 1921 in Carthage, Missouri. He registered for the draft February 16, 1942. At the time he was living in Wichita, Kansas and working at Beech Aircraft in Wichita. He joined Company K, 137th Infantry Regiment from the 38th Replacement Depot on October 2, 1944 and served as a Rifleman. He was promoted from Private to Staff Sergeant, Squad Leader, October 24 and was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge November 1, 1944. S/Sgt Robert L Shackelford was killed in action north of Habkirchen, Germany December 13, 1944. He is buried at Lorraine-American Cemetery, Saint Avold, France.
