Hollis D Smith, son of Everett and Leona (Clark) Smith, was born July 8, 1925 in Michie, Tennessee. He registered for the draft July 8, 1943 and was inducted into the Army October 12, 1943 at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. He joined Company B, 137th Infantry Regiment from the 86th Replacement Battalion July 21, 1944 and was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge August 1, 1944. Pfc Hollis D Smith was killed in action September 12, 1944 in the vicinity of Lorey, south of Nancy France just east of the Moselle River. He is buried at Shiloh National Cemetery, Shiloh, Tennessee.
