137th Infantry Regiment - Company B

Preston LeRoy Troup was born April 30, 1919 in Cly, Pennsylvania. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. At the time he was living in Lewisberry and working for the WPA in Marsh River, Pennsylvania. He was inducted into the Army November 23, 1943 at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and joined Company B, 137th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 17th Replacement Battalion on Christmas day, December 25, 1944 when the unit was at Moulins, France, where they spent Christmas before being sent the next day to the Ardennes to fight in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge January 1 and promoted to Private First Class February 1, 1945. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal June 1, 1945. Pfc Preston L Troup sailed for home from the ETO aboard the SS Cristobal on August 23 and docked at Boston Harbor August 31, 1945. From there he traveled for rest and recreation to Indian Gap, Pennsylvania. He was honorably discharged October 22, 1945. He passed away December 3, 1973 and is buried at Emanuel Cemetery, Fairview Township, Pennsylvania.
