Arthur Norton Weir, son of Mahlon and Clara (Bond) Weir, was born October 16, 1896 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa and moved with his family to Horton, Kansas when he was 3 years old. He enlisted in the Kansas National Guard, Company B, 137th Infantry Regiment at Horton and served on the Mexican border in 1916. He departed for France aboard the SS Karmala, departing from New York April 25, 1918. Pvt Arthur N Weir was killed by gunfire from a concealed enemy machine gun nest while gathering wood near his camp in the Vosges Mountains in France on August 23, 1918. He is buried at Horton Cemetery, Horton, Kansas.
