Claude Noel Newlin, son of Claude Ray and Ethel Mae (Sallee) Newlin, was born December 22, 1919 in Newton, Kansas. He was a member of the Kansas National Guard, mobilized to Federal Service December 23, 1940 at Reno, Kansas. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant September 17, 1942. He joined Battery C, 216th Field Artillery Battalion as a Motor Transport Officer from the 18th Replacement Depot July 24, 1944. 2nd Lt Claude N Newlin was killed in action July 30, 1944 in the vicinity of St Lo, France. He is buried at Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
