219th Field Artillery Battalion - Service Battery

Ross Alton Prather, son of Harry Earl and Alma Emelia (Ross) Prather, was born November 10, 1919 in Oconto, Nebraska and moved to Kansas sometime between 1920 and 1930. He married Charlotte Edna Oakley August 29, 1942 and the couple had 2 children, a daughter Geraldine Louise and a son Daryll Ross. A member of the National Guard, he was mobilized for Federal service December 23, 1940 at Salina, Kansas and was a member of Service Battery, 219th Field Artillery Battalion. S/Sgt Ross A Prather was killed in action August 10, 1944 in the vicinity of Mortain, France when the artillery battery underwent an air attack during which both high explosive and anti-personnel bombs were dropped. He is buried at Rose Hill Cemetery, Callaway, Nebraska.
