Harry Richard Hafner, son of Albert and Ida (Hoffmeister) Hafner, was born October 7, 1916 in Saint Louis, Missouri. He married Elva Marjorie Weltin and the couple had a daughter, Jacqueline. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. At the time He was working at Central States Paper and Bag Company, St Louis. He enlisted in the Army August 9, 1943 at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri and joined Company G, 320th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 48th Replacement Depot on August 15, 1944. He was wounded September 14, 1944 by shell fragments in the vicinity of Hudivillier, southeast of Nancy, France and remained on duty. Pfc Harry R Hafner was killed in action by a shell blast November 12, 1944 in the vicinity of Chateau-Salins, France. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery, St Louis, Missouri.
