Carl William Helm, son of William and Gertrude (Waltimyer) Helm, was born November 24, 1915 in Dallastown, Pennsylvania. He married Mildred Marie McCoy August 25, 1939 and the couple had two children, a son Jack and a daughter Linda Marie. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940. At that time he was living in York, Pennsylvania and working at the Yorkdale Beverage Company in York. He was inducted in the Army November 30, 1943 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, entered active service December 21, 1943, and was stationed at Fort McClellan, Camp Shelby, and Fort Meade before departing for the ETO. He joined Company G, 320th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 38th Replacement Battalion on September 22, 1944 when the unit was at Arracourt, France and was promoted to Private First Class November 1, 1944. Pfc Carl W Helm was killed in action by fragments from a shell blast November 12, 1944 in the vicinity of Chateau-Salins, France. He is buried at Saint John's Blymire UCC Cemetery, Dallastown, Pennsylvania.
