Eldred Vernon Hill, son of Herbert and Ethel Mae (Whitledge) Hill, was born May 22, 1915 in Graves County, Kentucky. He married Mildred Drew sometime prior to 1940. He registered for the draft October 16, 1940 when he was 25 years old, living in Mayfield, Kentucky and teaching at a local school. He was inducted into the Army August 21, 1943 at Evansville, Indiana, arrived in the ETO in May 1944, and joined Company K, 320th Infantry Regiment from the 48th Replacement Battalion on August 19, 1944 when the unit was at Toury, about 21 miles north of Orleans, France. He was promoted to Private First Class September 1, 1944. Pfc Eldred V Hill was killed in action by an artillery blast September 16, 1944 in the vicinity of Boissoncourt, about 9 miles east of Nancy, France. He is buried at Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint-Avold, France
