320th Infantry Regiment - Company I

Dwight Clifford Howard, son of Russell and Nora (Smith) Howard, was born December 16, 1924 in St Paul, Minnesota and moved to the State of New York sometime prior to 1930. He registered for the draft December 28, 1942 when he was an 18 year old student living in Groton, New York and attending Groton High School. He enlisted in the Army July 7, 1943 at Syracuse, New York and entered active service July 29, 1943 as a Rifleman in Company I, 320th Infantry Regiment. He landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy France July 6, 1944 and was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge August 20, 1944. Pvt Dwight C Howard was initially reported missing August 22, 1944 and was later confirmed killed in action August 26, 1944 in the vicinity of Pannes, France. He is buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Fort Snelling, Minnesota.
