Henry Edward Jones, Jr, son of Henry and Wellie Lorena (Townsend) Jones, was born February 14, 1922 in Sunflower, Mississippi. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942 when he was 20 years old and working at Gulf Shipbuilding Corporation in Mobile, Alabama. He entered service in April 1943 at Camp Croft, South Carolina. He joined Company K, 320th Infantry Regiment as a Squad Leader from the 83rd Replacement Battalion on December 21, 1944 while the Company was at Gersheim, Germany. Sgt Henry E Jones, Jr was initially reported missing and was later confirmed killed in action January 2, 1945 in the vicinity of Harlange, Luxembourg. He is buried at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Laurel, Mississippi.
