Donald Jay Kaercher, son of Marcellus John and Esther Christine (Flodquist) Kaercher, was born July 26, 1923 in Highland Park, Michigan. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942. At the time he was living in Detroit and working at National Twist Drill in Rochester, Michigan. He joined Company G, 320th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 71st Replacement Battalion on October 4, 1944 when the unit was in the vicinity of Chambrey, France. He was wounded by shell fragments near Chateau-Salins, France on November 9, and returned to duty December 16, 1944. Pvt Donald J Kaercher was killed in action December 29, 1944 in the vicinity of Harlange, Luxembourg. He is buried at Luxembourg American Cemetery, Hamm, Luxembourg.
