William Alfred Leister, Jr, son of William Alfred and Nora Ellen (Peifer) Leister, was born July 29, 1944 in Sunbury, Pennsylvania. He registered for the draft December 15, 1942 when he was 18 years old and was inducted into the Army May 24, 1943 at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He joined Company B, 320th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 48th Replacement Battalion on August 21, 1944 when the unit was in the vicinity of Pithiviers, France. Pfc William A Leister, Jr was killed in action by artillery shell fragments September 23, 1944 in the vicinity of Arraye-et-Han, France. At the time of his death, the 320th Infantry Regiment was temporarily attached to the 4th Armored Division. He is buried at Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury, Pennsylvania.
