 320th Infantry Regiment - Company L

William Raymond Loveless, Jr, son of William Raymond, Sr and Verna Viola (Butzer) Loveless, was born October 30, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois. He moved to New Jersey with his family in July 1924. He registered for the draft February 16, 1942. At the time he was living in Englewood, New Jersey and attending Paterson State Teachers College in Paterson, New Jersey. He entered the Army in July 1943 and joined Company L, 320th Infantry Regiment as a Rifleman from the 48th Replacement Battalion August 19, 1944 when the unit was in the vicinity of Pithiviers, France. He was promoted to Sergeant, Squad Leader August 28, 1944. Sgt William R Loveless, Jr was initially reported missing November 22, 1944 in the vicinity of Grening, France and was later confirmed killed in action on that date. He is buried at Union Cemetery, Altamont, Illinois.
