Robert Charles Lowry, son of Vayne Arnold and Daisy Viola (Easterday) Lowry, was born February 6, 1923 in Madison, South Dakota. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942 while working in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Hill City, South Dakota. He was inducted into the Army January 23, 1943 and served in Company D, 320th Infantry Regiment. Pfc Robert C Lowry was initially reported missing August 12, 1944 in the vicinity of Mortain, France and was later confirmed killed in action on that date. He was posthumously awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge August 20, 1944. He is buried at Brittany American Cemetery, Saint James, France.
