Jones Walter McGee, son of Walter Bryan and Viola (Martin) McGee, was born March 29, 1920 in Waverly, Tennessee. He married Dora Lee Sutton April 26, 1941. He was a self-employed farmer in Waverly, registered for the draft July 1, 1941, and was inducted into the Army August 3, 1943 at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. He served as a Rifleman in Company C, 320th Infantry Regiment and landed at Omaha Beach in Normandy, France July 6, 1944. He was promoted to Private First Class August 18 and awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, August 20, 1944. Pfc Jones W McGee was reported missing September 28, 1944 in the vicinity of Gremecey, France and was later confirmed killed by shrapnel from a shell blast on that date. He is buried at Richlawn Cemetery, Waverly, Tennessee.
