Troy Elmer Mitchell, son of Roscoe Caswell and Maymie Susan (George) Mitchell, was born April 13, 1923 in Union County, Tennessee. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942 when he was 19 years old and living in Andersonville, Tennessee. He was inducted into the Army January 8, 1943 at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia and served as an Automatic Rifleman in Company B, 320th Infantry Regiment. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge July 25, 1944. Pfc Troy E Mitchell was killed in action October 3, 1944 in the vicinity of the Foret De Gremecey, France. He is buried at Andersonville Cemetery, Andersonville, Tennessee.
