Edward Richard Nathans, son of Gordon Serrell and Pauline Margarete (Graham) Nathans, was born January 18, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois. He married Caroline Jozwik on March 1, 1941. He was inducted into the Army May 3, 1941 at Chicago, Illinois. He was a Squad Leader in the Anti-Tank Company, 320th Infantry Regiment, landed at Omaha Beach in Normandy, France July 7, 1944 and was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge July 31, 1944. S/Sgt Edward R Nathans was reported missing August 12, 1944 and was later confirmed killed in action on that date in the vicinity of Mortain, France. He is buried at Brittany American Cemetery, Saint James, France.
