Philip John Newland, Jr, son of Philip John Senior and Roxie (Edwards) Newland, was born April 30, 1924 in the District of Columbia. He registered for the draft June 30, 1942. At the time he was living in Lackawanna, Pennsylvania. He was inducted into the Army July 14, 1943 at Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. He was a member of Company I, 320th Infantry Regiment and landed at Omaha Beach in Normandy, France July 6, 1944. Pvt Philip J Newland, Jr was killed in action July 13, 1944 in the vicinity of St Lo, France. He is buried at Hanover Cemetery, Hanover, Pennsylvania.
