Company H - 320th Infantry Regiment

Robert Derrill Overfield, son of Robert Hays and Alpha Lou (Franks) Overfield, was born November 3, 1919 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He enlisted in the Missouri National Guard July 17, 1940 and was mobilized for Federal Service December 23, 1940 at Poplar Bluff. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in March 1943 while he was in training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He joined Company H, 320th Infantry Regiment from the 86th Replacement Battalion July 15, 1944 when the unit was in the vicinity of St Lo, France. 1st Lieutenant Robert D Overfield was killed in action September 11, 1944 south of Nancy, France. He is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
